Tuesday July 4 - Cordoba

Today we drove from Granada to Cordoba.  Along the way we saw several large castles on the hills.

In Cordoba we spent a fair amount of time just wandering the city. 

 Views of the city and the bridge. 

A major site was the Mesquita de Cordoba, an old mosque, now a Cathedral, with lots and lots of columns and arches.  Inside the treasury there was much gold and silver plundered from the New World.

Mary was hobbling a lot because of the splinter in her foot (from the beach in Nerja).  However, we did walk to the Alcazar, but it was closed for repairs.  Then off to Calle de las Flores – Street of the flowers.  A quaint tourist area.  

Both Granada and Cordoba had lots of Egyptian perfume bottles that Mary collects, so she picked up a few more here.  

Then we drove to Santiponce for the night, near the Italica Roman ruins.  

Stayed at the only hotel in the area for the night, a three star so we are splurging tonight.  After a long soak in the bathtub Mary’s splinter finally came out.
